Talbot

Having been House Leader of Talbot House for many years I can honestly say I still feel honoured each year to welcome many applicants from keen sixth formers eager to join the leadership team.  Each year the House system grows in strength as we see leadership applications rise.  This opportunity gives the team of, nine this year, the chance to nurture their motivational skills, improve their ability to work and negotiate as a team, improve their public speaking skills,  it gives them an opportunity to bring inspiration and creativity to the House and above all encourages them to work in a competitive environment.  All of these are attributes that any successful business would want to see in their employees, this is therefore, a great process for future Leaders.
The ‘Talbot Army’ as this year’s team have christened themselves are keen to continue with the three year success of securing first place in the Summer Sports, this is their first big event as new House Captains.  Talbot are still the only house in the history of the House system to win the overall annual championship for 4 years in succession and I am happy to say during my reign as House Leader.  The ethos of Talbot House is that of competition and team work, we aim to get total participation from all of the students, whether it is being proud of their academic achievements, proud of their attendance figures or in Arts or Sporting performances.  Our most proud achievement is that since the start of the Eisteddfod 10 years ago, Talbot have won the House Drama 8 times, definitely a force to be reckoned with.  I look forward to working with this year’s Captains and wish them great success.
