ICT

Year 9

The Y9 ICT course is designed to follow all aspects of the ICT National Strategy at KS3 whilst preparing students for a Level Two ICT qualification - the ICT OCR National.  It is designed to encourage all students to develop a range of valuable ICT skills that will be useful to work in all subjects.
Students will follow two units from the ICT OCR National specification with a focus on Skills for Business and Creating Web Graphics. 

 

Year 10 & 11

All students in Year Ten who opt for ICT are entered for the ICT OCR National Level Two qualification.  This is a GCSE equivalent qualification made up of a wide range of modules ranging from Website Design, Creating Video and Audio and Computer Animation to Database and Spreadsheet Design. 
It is an extremely flexible qualification with assessment based entirely on coursework.  Work is assessed to Pass, Merit and Distinction with points value equivalent to GCSEStudents follow a variety of paths through this course that can lead to a qualification that is the equivalent of up to 4 GCSEs. 
Single Option students will build on their work in Year Nine and will aim to complete the equivalent of one GCSE in Year Ten and a second GCSE in Year Eleven.
Double Option students will complete modules equivalent of up to two GCSEs in Year Ten and then, depending on progress modules worth a further two GCSEs in Year Eleven. 

 

Year 12 & 13

The BTEC National ICT qualification is a Level 3 qualification that provides a range of unit combinations that are equivalent to one or two A-Levels. At South we offer the course as a Single Option, but students will be able to follow the course either for the BTEC National Award, worth equivalent of one A-Level, or the BTEC National Certificate, worth the equivalent of two A-levels. 
The course focuses on aspects of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), which are directly relevant to the changing needs of employers. The course will develop skills, knowledge and understanding of computing through learning in a practical and realistic way.
