Biology

Year 10 & 11

Biology GCSE is a two year course, taught over Years 10 and 11. Students will work through the same modules as those taking Science and Additional Science, but will complete an additional two modules, covering more challenging aspects of Biology. Due to this, students will have a single and a double lesson each week.
The course contains activities, practicals and experiences which will excite students’ interest, and links these to scientific ideas and their implications for society. The more challenging topics covered in GCSE Biology include physiology of the living body and microbiology.
Biology GCSE helps to bridge the gap between GCSE and A-level, making it a much smoother transition for students.

Year 12 & 13

Biology AS and A2 cover some of the most up-to-date areas of biological science, and incorporate plenty of hands on experience, bringing the subject to life. Students can enjoy a diversity of lessons, as well as take the opportunity to join a ‘once in lifetime’ Biological expedition to the rainforests and coral reefs of Honduras.
The course requires students to have gained a Grade B or higher in both GCSE Science and GCSE Additional Science, or GCSE Biology, as well as having a good Maths background. The course is fully supported by resources and information on the school’s Moodle VLE, and is an A-level which allows access to a wide range of careers.
