Spring Term 2010
The School Play takes place this week (Wednesday 10, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 February. Tickets are selling well ..available from School Reception.
Thank you to parents and students who attended the Sixth Form Higher Education Evening on Thursday 4 February. Thanks also to Mr Clements and the Sixth Form Team for organising it.
Gail Quinton (Director of Childrens Services) and Marcus Hart (Lead County Councillor for Education) visited our School on Wednesday 27 January. They met members of the student Learning Council, spent time with large numbers of students in the Restaurant area and had a tour of the School. We enjoyed spending time with them and they seemed to enjoy it too.
Hopefully we have seen the back of the snow ..and writing at the end of the third week of term we are pleased to have got through the routines of a full week. All scheduled exams have taken place and there are a few more over the next two weeks. On the subject of public examinations ...students have once again done very well in English Language with just 70% of year 11 scoring at least a C grade. Well done. We know those who just missed out will be working hard to achieve at least a C grade by the end of the Summer.
Autumn Term 2009
The non-uniform day (held on the final day of the Autumn Term) was very successful raising in excess of £1 000 for charity ..well done to all concerned.
Duke of Edinburgh Award Presentation Evening (Monday 14 December)
A huge audience of proud parents and friends turned out for the presentation of this years awards. It was great to welcome back gold award winners fresh from employment or University. We were thrilled that ex-student, rugby playing, Jordan Crane (Leicester Tigers and England) was able to present to around 300 young people(bronze, silver and gold). Jordan was pleased to answer question from the audience and was in much demand for photographs and autographs afterwards.
Music, Music, Music
Well done to all who participated in the excellent music concert on Wednesday (9 December). It was an evening of entertainment much enjoyed by the audience of friends and families. Many thanks to the staff who were involved especially Miss Miller and Mr Cobon for their enthusiasm and organisation.
On the morning after, Mr Cobon led the dance band and choirs to performances at Chadsgrove and Rigby Hall Special Schools. These were fantastic occasions very much appreciated by all involved. Look out for snaps taken by Mr Clements on the music concert and possibly from Mr Cobon on the performances out and about. Mr Cobon has been very busy ..we may have some photos in gallery coming up from our workshop at St John's Middle School.
Golds Galore at the Palace
At the end of November Mr Auger and Mr Dixon were proud to be Marshals at St James Palace. The proud occasion was to accompany a record 71 ex-Year 13 students as they were presented with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Gold. The Earl of Wessex commented that surely this large group of students were not all from the same School. Most of the 71 are currently completing their first term at University. Watch out in gallery for Mr Dixon's snaps of the day enjoyed by all.
Back in business now following half term. We have all quickly got back into the swing! Year 11 were impeccably organised for the English Language GCSE examination. Well done to Year 11 who are fast becoming an outstanding group of students. We thank the English Faculty (led by Mrs Jackson) for its enthusiasm in preparing students so thoroughly for this early entry. Particular thanks have come from students to English staff who provided additional "breakfast" classes on the morning of the exams. These were said to be "awesome". Did you know that our English Faculty is currently the top English Faculty in the County for GCSE? Yes, it is true ..based on Summer 2009 examination results we came out right on top. Well done to students and staff on this achievement.
How well did Miss Sidell do in becoming "National PE teacher of the Year".
A well deserved award for an inspirational teacher who has made a real difference to sports education at South and throughout the wider area. Watch out for some pictures of Miss Sidell with some other famous people in our gallery

The school has a number of national awards.
South Bromsgrove High School (SBHS) holds the Successful Schools Project award, the Investor in People award, is one of the lead participants in the Duke of Edinburgh's award and is listed in the "Good State School " guide. Naturally we are very honoured by these accolades and feel extremely proud of the school's academic, sporting and cultural achievements.
